Sheriff Coppinger opens new Pretrial Re-Entry Services Unit

The Essex County Sheriff’s Department recently opened its Pretrial Re-entry Services Unit. This unit represents the continued commitment to provide our managed inmate population essential access to addiction interventions and supports to improve recidivism and public safety outcomes. Within this unit, inmates will be eligible to access case management services and referrals to community-based treatment and programs. Eligibility will be based on criteria set forth by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department to include collaboration with our district/superior court associates, the Essex County District Attorney’s office and representing counsel.

The Pretrial Re-entry Services unit will be managed by Director Jacquelyn Richards. Richards will be responsible for managing inmate eligibility, communication with surrounding courts and associated divisions, inmate case management as well as development of individualized treatment plans. She will be assisted by Pretrial Reentry Resource Specialist Jane Sutter. Captain Laura Dow will assume oversight of unit operations and supervision of assigned correctional staff.
