Essex County Sheriff announces death of inmate due to COVID-19, other health issues

MIDDLETON — An Essex County Sheriff’s Department inmate has passed away at Lahey Clinic in Burlington due to complications from COVID-19 and other underlying health issues. The inmate died Wednesday evening.
“My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family,” Sheriff Kevin Coppinger said. “This pandemic continues to wreak havoc bringing tremendous heartache to so many families in all walks of life. These are unprecedented times and we all must continue to work together to find a cure for this horrible illness.”
The 41-year old male had been in the Middleton House of Correction since February 18, 2020.
As of April 29, 2020, 60 inmates at ECSD facilities have tested positive for COVID-19 and 45 have fully recovered.
