Celebrating our state's POW-MIAs

Sheriff's Department hosts annual POW-MIA remembrance ceremony
Leonard

Today, we were honored to hold our annual ceremony honoring our state's POW-MIAs. Our Middleton facility is home to the state's only monument containing the name of each and every POW-MIA and we recognize their service by reading each of their names on National POW-MIA Recognition Day and presenting the Missing Man Table.

This year, we were honored to have in attendance John J. King, the brother POW-MIA Paul C. King Jr. and uncle of our own ECSD Sgt. Melissa Leonard. We were also honored to have Secretary Cheryl Lussier Poppe from the Massachusetts Department of Veterans' Services and retired Brigadier General Andrea Gayle-Bennett of the Massachusetts National Guard — The Nation's First speak at today's ceremony.

We would like to thank all of our veterans who came and participated in today's ceremony.

We would also like to thank the Lawrence High School Lancer Battalion Army Junior ROTC Armed Drill Team, Northshoremen Barbershop Chorus, trumpeter Lauren Sargent and the multimedia class from the Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School, retired Lynn Police Department Sgt. Edward Shinnick, as well as the Essex County veterans' agents, lawmakers, and police officers who helped make today extra special.
