The Supporting Transitions And Reentry (STAR) program is a community-based referral program with offices in Lynn and Lawrence designed to reduce recidivism through coordinated support from the courts, corrections, and community partners. STAR begins for some participants inside the jail through clinical, vocational, and educational services, while others are referred by the courts as an alternative to incarceration. Each participant is assigned a STAR Navigator, who creates an individualized plan based on the person’s strengths and needs and connects them with mental-health, substance-use, educational, and vocational resources. With a flexible structure that supports work and family life, STAR helps individuals build attainable goals and successfully reenter their communities. Referrals come from courts, probation, parole, the District Attorney’s Office, and local law enforcement.
