Community Programs

The Essex County Sheriff’s Department is deeply committed to serving and strengthening the communities across all 34 cities and towns in Essex County. Our community-focused programs go beyond traditional law enforcement — from Community Service crews that provide free support with landscaping, painting, and cleanup for local municipalities and nonprofits, to our Anti-Graffiti Unit helping keep neighborhoods clean and vibrant. We offer a variety of outreach and enrichment programs including the Triad senior safety initiative, Youth Leadership Academy for young residents, K-9 demonstrations, and participation in community events that build trust and connection.

These efforts are vital to the health and safety of our region. By offering support, education, and resources directly to residents, we strengthen public trust, foster positive relationships, and help create safer, more resilient communities for everyone.
