The Essex County Sheriff’s Department has partnered with Liam Legal to offer a secure, no-cost way for attorneys to deliver legal mail to individuals in our custody.
We encourage attorneys to create a free Liam Legal account. To sign up, attorneys must provide a current bar card and a valid form of identification.
How it works:
- Attorneys register at app.liamlegal.com and upload the required credentials.
- The Essex County Sheriff’s Department verifies the attorney’s information.
- Once approved, attorneys can securely scan and upload legal mail through the app.
- Legal mail is delivered electronically to a secure, private kiosk, where clients may view and print documents at no cost.
This system benefits attorneys, clients, and our facilities by improving efficiency, enhancing security, and protecting privacy. It also significantly reduces the risk of illicit drugs entering our facilities through mail disguised as legal correspondence—helping keep our staff and population safe.
