SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF RE-ENTRY TRANSITION UNIT AT PRE-RELEASE CENTER!

Essex County Sheriff’s Department held it’s Grand Opening for the Re-Entry Transition Unit (RTU) today.  Re-Entry services will be provided on site within the last 90 days of sentencing for inmates that are transitioning back into the community.

“We want to offer our residents every resource available while they are with us to increase their chance to be successful back in their communities.” Said Executive Director Re-Entry Division James Petrosino.

The focus of this new initiative is on the enhancement of customized individual re-entry plans; to include inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment, career training, educational programming, mental health and veteran service referrals to reduce the chance of recidivism. This unit will work collaboratively with the programs and services provided at the Middleton House of Correction during initial incarceration.

This program is a collaborative effort with federal, state, local community partners and stakeholders for the success of inmate reintegration efforts.

Speakers included: Essex County Sheriff Kevin Coppinger, Superintendent Michael Marks, Executive Director Re-Entry Division James Petrosino, Reintegration Coordinator Julie Hartling, Asst. Superintendent Christine Eisenhaure and William Cabrera from Billy’s Barbershop/Reclamation Center Lowell, MA.
